Der Name „Cozy Street Corner” erinnert mehr an ein gemütliches Straßencafé, in dem Cappuccino geschlürft oder Nasi Goreng gegessen wird, als an eine indonesische Band, bestehend aus drei Mitgliedern, die sich bereits im zarten Schulalter kennengelernt und gemeinsam Musik gespielt haben. Dennoch ist ihr Name Programm, und manch einer mag sich beim Hören der Lieder von „Cozy Street Corner” so fühlen, als säße er genau in diesem Café um die Ecke.

Christian Takarbessy, Boby Priambodo und Petrus Briyanto Adi halten es für das Wichtigste, immer authentisch zu bleiben und nicht kommerziell zu werden, nur weil dies die Verkaufszahlen ihrer Alben in die Höhe treiben könnte. Mit so einer Einstellung auf dem heutigen Musikmarkt zu überleben, ist nicht einfach – aber trotzdem hat „Cozy Street Corner” bereits drei Alben veröffentlicht und eine treue Fangemeinde gewonnen.

Ihre Musik ist im Grunde zugänglicher Gitarren-Pop, allerdings stark vermischt mit Elementen aus benachbarten Genres, wie Rock, Folk, traditioneller Musik oder sogar exotisch anmutenden Klängen aus dem Mittleren Osten. Die Texte beschäftigen sich mit Liebe, Natur oder ganz alltäglichen Dingen wie der morgendliche Kaffeegenuss.

Bekannt ist die Band vor allem auch für die lockere und mitreißende Atmosphäre bei ihren Auftritten. Das Goethe-Institut Jakarta hat „Cozy Street Corner” am 20. September dazu eingeladen, im GoetheHaus für gute Stimmung zu sorgen. Das Konzert beginnt um 20 Uhr.

COZY STREET CORNER

Nama „Cozy Street Corner” lebih mengingatkan kita pada kedai-kedai kopi yang nyaman di pinggir jalan, dimana kita bisa menghirup Cappuccino dan makan nasi goreng dengan nikmat, daripada nama band Indonesia dengan tiga personal yang sudah saling kenal dan bermusik bersama sejak masa sekolah. Mendengarkan lagu-lagu yang mereka bawakan, memang serasa duduk-duduk di kedai yang nyaman.

Christian Takarbessy, Boby Priambodo dan Petrus Briyanto Adi menganggap bahwa yang penting ialah tetap otentik dan tidak komersil, dalam hubungan dengan angka penjualan album mereka sekalipun. Bekerja dan hidup dengan prinsip seperti itu tidaklah mudah – walau demikian mereka sudah mengeluarkan tiga album dan telah memiliki penggemar setia.

Pada dasarnya musik mereka ialah pop gitar dicampur dengan elemen rock, folk, musik tradisional bahkan dengan bunyi-bunyi indah dan eksotis dari Timur Tengah. Teks lagu mereka bicara mengenai cinta, alam atau hal-hal sehari-hari seperti nikmatnya menghirup kopi di pagi hari.

Band ini juga terkenal karena mereka selalu tampil santai dan bersemangat. Oleh sebab itu kami mengundang mereka tampil di GoetheHaus tanggal 20.9. jam 20.00 untuk memberikan kehangatan dan kegembiraan pada yang hadir.

Hearing the name “Cozy Street Corner”, one will probably think of a small and nice café, a place where you can drink Cappuccino or eat Nasi Goreng, rather than an Indonesian band, consisting of three musicians, who have already known each other since high school. But in a way, their name represents the kind of music they play, because while listening to it, you might actually feel like sitting in such a café.

Christian Takarbessy, Boby Priambodo and Petrus Briyanto Adi think it is highly important to stay authentic and not become too commercial just to increase the sales figures of their albums. To survive in the music market with such high principles is not always easy nowadays – but even so, “Cozy Street Corner” managed to release three albums and gained a loyal crowd of fans.

Their music is basically accessible guitar pop, but combined with elements from other music genres like rock, folk, traditional music and even exotic sounds from the Middle East. In their lyrics, they tell stories about love, nature or daily habits like drinking coffee in the morning.

The band is also well-known for the relaxed and stirring atmosphere during their live performances. The Goethe-Institut Jakarta has invited “Cozy Street Corner” on September 20nd to perform at the GoetheHaus. The concert will start at 8 PM.
